Tree Study

The 7-8s’ study of trees in science begins with different STEM activities that allow students to explore the different parts of a tree through play-based learning. Through firsthand examination of trees on the block of MCS and in Central Park, the 7-8s record their observations of trees’ bark, branches, leaves, and roots throughout the changing seasons and through the process of decay and decomposition. Students consider how trees are important to our global community and discuss the interrelationships that exist between trees and fungi and the communication and survival strategies that trees use via the fungal network.
