Maiya Jackson

In the Summer of 2023, Maiya Jackson stepped into her new role as the Co-Head of School. Prior to this role, Maiya served as Upper School Director and classroom teacher.

Maiya was introduced to MCS in 2004 during an internship for her Masters in Educational Leadership from the Klingenstein Program at Teachers College, Columbia University. Maiya “fell in love with the mission,” she says. “The students there will go on to be advocates for social justice—and that’s exactly the impact I want to have on the world.”

Maiya co-chaired the 2013 Progressive Educators Network (PEN) conference in New York City and is one of the founding members of Progressive Educators Network New York (PENNY).

Maiya studied English literature and earned her BA from Brown University. She started her education career as Co-Director of Breakthrough Collaborative Long Island, a non-profit program where talented high school and college students teach middle school students from under-resourced schools. Maiya is the parent of two current MCS students (‘32 and ‘33).
