Manhattan Country School's annual Farm Outing Day at the MCS Farm.

Omar Kariuki ‘89

Omar Kariuki is currently the Head of US Emerging Markets Fixed Income Sales at Banco Santander, where he leads a team of ten focused on LatAm and Europe. Prior to joining Santander, Omar worked on the Emerging Markets sales desk at Morgan Stanley with a focus on rates, FX and credit. Additionally, he was the co-head of Morgan Stanley’s Sophomore Intern Program, and was a 2012 recipient of the UBS Global Employee Volunteering Award. Prior to that, Omar spent seven years at Citigroup Asset Management. While there, he served in a variety of roles, including the management of two money market portfolios on the liquidity trading desk and covered the consumer products and beverage and spirit sector as a credit research analyst.

A member of MCS Class of 1989, Omar attended Rice High School and Yorktown High School before attending Hampton University, where he received his B.S. in Finance. He later received his M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth University. Omar resides in New Canaan, Connecticut with his wife, Karen Kariuki, and their three children (age 9, 6 and 4). Karen is Chief Strategic Officer at Grace Farms Foundation, a founder of Factor Philanthropy, and formerly a Director at The Fund for Public Schools. Karen shared her expertise in education funding and presented models for revenue streams that could come from farm-based education with the Advisory Council last year.

Omar remembers spending a lot of time on the mezz during his MCS years, but he describes his MCS education as “formative in my life” and credits MCS as a stabilizing force at a time when his life was not. He has been increasingly re-engaging with MCS over the past few years. Omar and his family have made a multi-year major gift to the MCS capital campaign. He is eager to support MCS so other children can have the benefit of an MCS education, and enthusiastic about making a formal commitment to MCS as a trustee. Omar hopes to share his skills in financial projections and strategy, and to engage his professional networks in fundraising for MCS.
