Erika Gibson ‘86
A member of the Class of 1986, Erika Gibson DVM, DACVIM (Neurology) went on to Horace Mann and then Duke University before graduating Cum Laude from the Tuskegee School of Veterinary Medicine and becoming the first African American veterinary neurosurgeon/neuroscientist ever. In 2018, she joined Guardian Veterinary Specialists, an emergency, critical care, and specialty hospital in Brewster, NY as a neurologist/neurosurgeon.
Along the way, Erika completed a one-year rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Michigan State University, worked as a veterinary Neurologist/Neurosurgeon at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, England, did a three-year residency in Neurology and Neurosurgery at the University of Pennsylvania and worked at a thriving general and referral practice in New Jersey alongside with two veterinary neurologists for three years.
In addition to serving as secretary and chair of the MCS Board of Trustees since 2015, Erika served on the Vestry of St. Mark’s Church in the Bowery for several years.
