Spring Concert Reminds Us That Home Is in the Heart

Friday, June 3, 2016

On Thursday, June 2, Manhattan Country School’s students in the 8-9s through eighth grade shared their musical talents at the annual Spring Concert. Classmates, teachers, staff, family and friends gathered in the chapel of The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest to witness a selection of musical numbers centered around the theme “Home Is in the Heart.”

The concert featured an eclectic mix of musical genres including Broadway, classical, folk, pop, R & B, spiritual and even winter holiday. Selections included “It’s Possible” from "Suessical the Musical," “Dream a Dream,” “El Vito,” a medley of “Ezekiel Saw De Wheel” and “Walk Together, Children,” John Lennon’s “Imagine,” and Phillip Phillips’ “Home.” The chorus was accompanied by Mina Yu and Skye on piano, guest percussionist Ben Charnley on the drum, Matthew on guitar, Jan-Adam on the shaker and Ruby on the tambourine.

Sophia F. performed a piano solo of “Waltz Opus 37 #7,” while Matthew offered a vocal and guitar solo of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Down By the Schoolyard.” Ayla and Sophia F. performed a lovely duet of “Some Things Are Meant to Be” from Little Women.

Thank you to Donovan and the MCS Chorus for an entertaining musical showcase.
