We are thrilled to announce that hip-hop legend Pete Rock will be on the ones and twos at Big Night Out! this year. (Manhattan Country School alumnus Adrian Bartos ’83—aka DJ Stretch Armstrong—was supposed to spin at this year's event, but has a schedule conflict.)
Pete is a DJ, rapper and producer who was brought into the hip-hop scene by his cousin, the late Heavy D. He rose to prominence in the early 1990s as one half of the critically acclaimed group Pete Rock & CL Smooth. Pete has had a solo music career for more than two decades. During this time, he's recorded 11 albums and produced more than 30 artists across multiple genres: hip hop (The Notorious B.I.G., Public Enemy), R&B (Mary J. Blige, TLC, Monica), Rock (Mick Jagger), Pop (Madonna, Lady Gaga) and jazz (Robert Glasper). He has created dozens of remixes, including some that eclipsed the original songs in popularity. His blend of jazz, soul, and rap music unites people across race, class, gender, nationality and geography. We hope you'll join us on the dance floor at Big Night Out! as we groove to tunes spun by this music innovator.
Big Night Out! is MCS' annual spring benefit to support sliding-scale tuition. The event features the Living the Dream Mentor Award ceremony, dinner, dancing and an online auction. Revenue from Big Night Out! is vital to helping us raise the more than $2 million needed each year to operate day to day in New York City and at the MCS Farm.
