Alumni in Action

An update from Steven Melendez '01:

"I've got a documentary film called LIFT that [premiered] at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was shot over ten years and chronicles my work bringing dance to homeless and home insecure children in New York City. This is the background I come from, as I think you know, and the LIFT outreach program is what first introduced me to ballet some decades ago. I have just moved back to New York a couple of weeks ago as I take the helm of New York Theatre Ballet as Artistic Director, and, in a way, I've now come full circle leading the organization that gave me my start!"

Congrats to Steven for the film and new position at the New York Theatre Ballet. Welcome back to New York!

Ada Martin, MAEd '83 started a new consulting business, Equitable Learning Solutions:

"I consult with organizations and individuals to develop and facilitate training on various topics related to diversity (not limited to that area), such as anti-blackness in the Latino community, organizational inclusivity, and cultural bias training. With over 20 years in higher education, I bring a unique perspective to course and project design. Using a diversity and equity lens, I apply instructional design theory and learning models to assist individuals and organizations in determining the proper learning strategy for their courses/projects... I am still currently working full-time, and I am entering the second year of my Educational Leadership and Policy doctoral program at the University of Arizona, but I am taking on smaller projects for the time being and hope to transition to full-time in the future."

If anyone thinks they might benefit from Ada's services, they can schedule a consultation on her company website - and be sure to mention the MCS connection! :)
