Erika Gibson ‘86

Erika Gibson ’86 is a veterinary neurosurgeon/neuroscientist at Guardian Veterinary Specialists, where she treats brain, spinal and balance issues in animals. Gibson is the first African-American board-certified veterinary neurosurgeon. She knew at an early age that she wanted to become a veterinarian and credits her trips to the Manhattan Country School Farm with nurturing her love for both large and small animals. In September 2020, Erika was named the Interim Chair of the MCS Board of Trustees.

Erika received a Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University and is a graduate of the Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine, the only veterinary medical professional program located on the campus of a historically black college or university.  She completed her residency in Veterinary Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital.
