Accreditation is a comprehensive year-long process that members of New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) undergo every ten years. A narrative self-study report examines every aspect of the school including governance, administration, the community, and academic programs. For MCS it includes the school and the Farm. We also submit reports that provide them with quantities of data. Then NYSAIS schedules a team of educators to visit the school and assess the alignment between its mission and program, and its progress toward strategic goals. Our 2018 visiting committee just left after four days. Their report will be submitted to NYSAIS and we will hear their assessment and recommendations later in the year. Read more
Manhattan Country School's Thanksgiving Assembly is a community event.
We invite families to join us at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2018.
Two (2) members from each student’s family are welcome. There will be reserved seating for families of student class reps. Read more
We often hear or use the phrase, “paying it forward.” This usually pertains to doing a good deed for others or a random act of kindness. We’ve been using this phrase the past couple weeks at the Manhattan Country School Farm to reflect on our gardening practices. Read more
This week Laura and Callie's 6-7's math unit entails multiple ways to collect and analyze data. To gain an initial data pool, the 6-7's had a homework assignment to count all of the windows, doors, pillows and stuffed animals in their homes. 6-7's could show their numerical findings with numbers, pictures or tally marks. Through this "stuffie-counting project" the 6-7's are learning to use raw data to draw larger, objective conclusions that can ultimately be supported by numbers. Read more
For the past two years the MCS administration has supported parents and the PA by holding space for a series of Parent-Led Forms, or PLFs. We began two years ago with two forums, including a screening and discussion of Thirteenth; last year, we were able to provide three forums: How to Raise Feminist Boys, Supporting Diverse Learners, and Food Justice: It’s Socio-Political, Environmental, and Cultural Impact. These forums were conceived of and developed by parents, and included workshops, panels of experts, and sharing of resources. Read more

Manhattan Country School follows the NYC Department of Education guidelines for school closures due to bad weather or hazardous conditions. If MCS has a weather-related delay, early dismissal or closure, families of students will be notified in the following ways: Read more
