On Wednesday, June 12, 2019, 22 eighth-graders graduated from Manhattan Country School. During a ceremony shared with faculty, staff, family and friends, the graduates offered the following thoughts about their time at MCS. Read more

Last week, Manhattan Country School's eighth-graders delivered three performances of "Into the Woods," a production directed by Shadenia Davis with Dan Rubins on piano. Eighth graders performed for their families, young alumni and again on the night of Graduation. Bravo to all on a fantastic production.  Read more
On Thursday, June 13, the MCS gym filled with families, students, faculty and staff to celebrate the end of the 2018-2019 school year. On the heels of 8th grade graduation, a celebratory spirit filled the air, as there is so much to celebrate this year.  Read more
Eighth Grade students spent the year in science seminar designing, building, constructing and programming Lego Mindstorm robots to engage their engineering, computer science, design and mathematical reasoning abilities. They built Lego towers to learn about structure and stability, robots that could draw to learn about loops, robots that played tag to learn about sensors and conditional expressions and racing robots to learn about gears. Delivered at the June 7, 2019 State of School And Final Parents' Association Meeting A week ago, upon the arrival of the 9-10s’ pen pals from Roxbury Central School, two 9-10s greeted their bus as it pulled up out front. “Welcome to our school. We call our teachers by first names here -- no last names.”  This child was not prompted to say this, but somehow knew that this was important information to convey. What this child intuitively senses, I believe, is that this pronouncement is more than just a minor detail about our school, but rather one that helps to orient our guests to our school culture. In fact, it speaks to a key tenet of how we are a progressive school.   Read more

Thank you for your participation and engagement during RG175’s (Tony Featherston and Bob Henderson) site visit in early May. Many of you spent time in-person with the search firm and 140 of you completed the survey. From those conversations and survey data, RG175 worked with me and the Search Committee to formulate a position statement that clearly characterizes what we love about MCS, the opportunities for the future, and the challenges that our school is working to overcome. Please read the Position Statement and feel free to share it with your networks. Save the Date! Farm Festival is set for Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.  The day will feature a raffle, games and rides, arts and crafts, entertainment and food. The Farm Festival co-chairs for 2019 have met several times since the winter with the vision to build on the success of past years. We aim to refine and systematize some past processes to ease planning in future years as our school community grows. Read more
