Fifth graders from Manhattan Country School, Central Park East II and Children’s Workshop School, presented the MLK Living the Dream Book Award to Lina Maslo, author and illustrator of the children’s picture book, Free as a Bird: The Story of Malala, in a ceremony at Manhattan Country School.

Big Night Out! 2019 was a resounding success - a night when the value and impact of MCS’ mission and program were reflected in multiple generations of alumni, past, current and future families and faculty, as well as friends of the school and the remarks of the 2019 honorees. Thank you for helping us to raise more than $336,000, an all-time record for our gala and 33% more than we raised in 2018. Read more
On Friday, May 10, fifth graders from Manhattan Country School, Central Park East II and Children’s Workshop School, presented the MLK Living the Dream Book Award to Lina Maslo, author and illustrator of the children’s picture book, Free as a Bird: The Story of Malala in a ceremony at Manhattan Country School. The “Living the Dream” Book Award culminates a yearlong private/public school partnership, initiated by MCS in 1990. The award is presented to a children’s picture book that embodies the values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Read more
With the help of the Whole Kids Foundation and the Bee Cause Project (in the form of a $1,500 grant), our eighth-grade students are now able to open and investigate our hives at the Manhattan Country School Farm wearing suits purchased with the generous gift! Read more
For more than 30 years, literally generations, students from Manhattan Country School and Roxbury Central School have exchanged letters as pen pals. The MCS Farm is in the Town of Roxbury, NY, which has one pre-K through 12th grade “central” school. The initial aim of this exchange was to dispel stereotypes and examine urban and rural cultural biases, while improving literacy. Read more
On Wednesday, May 8, the Lower School held the Tertulia and SingAlong Assembly. A tertulia is a gathering of people brought together by a common interest. Our tertulia celebrated the Lower School language and music curriculum (singing in five languages!) through song and dance. Read more
This past week, Manhattan Country School hosted our consultant team from RG175, who is helping with the search for our next Head of School. All MCS constituents are encouraged to complete a survey, which will aide in the "discovery" process. Read more
After fourteen years in New York City and six years at Manhattan Country School, Mónica Amaro will be stepping down as Director of Admissions at the end of the summer. She and her family are relocating to her hometown of El Paso, Texas to spend a few years living closer to family and planning to spend some time abroad in a Spanish-speaking country. Read more
This week, we welcomed Ryann Supple to MCS to begin her role as Communications Manager. She has previously worked in communications and development roles in private schools in New York City and Los Angeles. Read more
This spring, we need to elect a new Parents’ Association (PA) Co-President to fill the vacancy that will be left by Stacy Parker Le Melle, who is winding up her two-year term. The coming 2019-20 school year will be a pivotal one for MCS given the transition to a new head of school; Michèle Solá will continue in her role through the next school year, but it is anticipated that her successor will be selected this fall. City Camp is Manhattan Country School's summer program for MCS students in the 4-5s through 9-10s, including new Lower School students joining the school in the fall. During City Camp, students broaden their MCS experience by being immersed in fun and engaging activities aligned with the school’s mission and values. Read more
