5-6s Subitizing
An important feature of an early childhood math curriculum that parents may not know about is something called subitizing, which is a big word for a very simple phenomenon: the ability to recognize the number of objects simply by looking at their arrangement. If you have ever rolled a pair of dice and recognized 12 pips by seeing two sets of boxcars, then you know what it feels like to subitize. Read more

Gifts to The MCS Fund are applied directly to day-to-day operating expenses at MCS and the MCS Farm, including salaries, benefits and professional development opportunities for faculty and staff; educational supplies for classrooms; and facility maintenance. 2017 Community Basketball Game
Join us Friday, February 16 for Manhattan Country School’s Community Basketball Game. This annual event features a competitive, yet friendly basketball game for MCS students, parents, faculty and staff, and alumni. In addition, young basketball enthusiasts have the chance to test their skills with basketball dribbling and shooting challenges. Read more
Meeting Notes
Nancy Hsu, MCS Fund and special events manager, kicked off the meeting by thanking parent volunteers. She spoke sbout The MCS Fund, and how the goal is for 100-percent family participation (no matter the amount). She also spoke briefly about the New York International Children’s Film Festival: February 23 to March 18, 2018. Info will be sent out via classes and Nuestra Semana. A portion of ticket revenue will go to MCS. Read more

New York Theatre Ballet is performing Mother GOOSE!, a one-hour show ideal for children and families, next weekend. NYTB is offering $10 tickets to MCS families who RSVP by Thursday, February 8. Read more
It's time! NY Int'l Children's Film Festival 2018 is just around the corner and will be showcasing the best new films for ages 3-18. The festival is packed full of fantastic film programs for your family this year and, even better, our school earns $3 back for every ticket you purchase! Read more
