It is important that Manhattan Country School continues to grow as a community with purposeful, broad socioeconomic diversity across enrollment, faculty and staff, and as a model for progressive education, teacher training and equitable tuition policy. With your support and continued generosity and the broad participation of the MCS community, we know that we can meet our goals. We hope you will join in supporting MCS’ effort to sustain its founding mission, cultivate more lifelong learners and change makers and grow its impact in New York City and beyond. By September 2019, the entire lower school enrollment will double, with two classes in each grade. This doubling creates the need for more finished space on the 6th floor to house upper-school classrooms. Our plans for growth are still on schedule but our immediate needs are additional 6th floor classrooms. Completion of the 6th floor space is necessary to accommodate expanding enrollment at MCS, a key element of the school's strategic plan, and will have significant impact on our current students. The additional classrooms will create more space for Lower School specialty classes, and will enrich programming for older students with a new math/science/maker space. The expanded space will also enrich the growing afterschool and camp programs and create new event space for fundraising and gatherings. The elevators will also get a much needed update this summer, making it so that the elevator will stop on every floor. Read more

For those who didn't hear the sad news via the MCS Alumni Association Facebook page, Gary Zingher, one of the memorable librarians at MCS, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2019. His final days were spent surrounded by family and dear friends. Gary ignited an indelible imagination, and love of books and magic, on his MCS students and colleagues. He also wrote several books (At the Pirate Academy; Theme Play: Exciting Young Imaginations) and a regular column for School Library Journal. Read more
