MCS Farm Receives Garden Grant

By Stephanie Pilla, Institutional Giving, Annual Fund and Alumni Relations Manager
The Manhattan Country School Farm is the proud recipient of a 2021 Whole Kids Garden Grant  The Farm received $3,000 to support the Farm's existing edible, educational gardens.  The Whole Kids Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) founded by Whole Foods Market that supports schools to improve children’s nutrition and wellness.

The goal of the Garden Grant program is for schools and non-profit organizations to cultivate outdoor spaces into powerful hands-on learning gardens that connect kids with food, spark their curiosity and support classroom curriculum - what the MCS Farm has been doing for over 50 years!

With the grant funding,  the Farm will purchase more garden tools, seeds and drip irrigation that will be used directly by children.  This will allow for increased fruit and vegetable production in the Farm's gardens, and result in more food for Farm meals and 85th Street lunches, as well as increased donations for Roxbury's local food pantry.

The MCS Farm received a Whole Kids Bee Cause Grant for the honey bee program in 2019 and a Renewal Bee Cause Grant earlier this year.
