Nine hundred fifty-three pounds. No, that’s not the collective weight of Manhattan Country School’s 4-5s class. It’s the total weight of textbooks and literature MSC teachers and administrators donated this year to support global literacy.
As teachers and administrators completed their end-of-year cleaning before the summer break they discovered a wealth of educational materials that were no longer needed. Upper School Director Maiya Jackson, Librarian Jay Fung and Building Caretaker Extraordinaire George Popovic worked diligently to gather these materials into what would become 33 boxes of books that were shipped off to Worldwide Book Drive (WBD) this week.
This is MCS’ second time donating to WBD. Two years ago, we contributed 20 boxes of books.
WBD is an organization that shares MCS’ commitment to sustainability. Instead of ending up in landfills, unneeded books donated to WBD are entered into a database of educational materials that is accessible to organizations in need across the globe.
