MCS Hosts First Home Game in New Gym
Manhattan Country School made history on Tuesday when it hosted its first basketball game in its own gym. Before a balcony filled with spectators, the JV boys basketball team took on the British International School of New York, winning 61-3. It’s was the third victory in a row for the junior squad, which had previous wins against
The Geneva School of Manhattan (40-19) and the Bank Street School for Children (41-20). They claimed another win this Thursday against The Heschel School (24-14).
MCS has longed for the ability to host sporting events in its own building. The school’s previous home of 49 years—a townhouse on the Upper East Side—lacked a gymnasium. In order to host home games, the school rented space at Boys and Girls Harbor, the 92nd Street Y and other facilities. As the school searched for a new building, a gymnasium was a highly sought amenity. In addition to serving as a venue for sports, the gym provides a larger gathering space for assemblies and other events. The MCS community will have the opportunity to view another game in the new gym on Tuesday, January 31 at 4 p.m. when the JV boys play City & Country.
