MCS Basketball Teams Off to a Strong Start
Manhattan Country School’s basketball teams are off to a strong start this season.
The girls varsity team had an impressive 47-2 win over the British International School on Thursday. They currently hold a 4-1 record in a division that includes Rodeph Sholom, Heschel, Avenues, UNIS Queens, Stephen Gaynor, Mandell and Cathedral. Next week the girls take on Heschel (30 West End Avenue) on Tuesday and Mandell at home at Boys & Girls Harbor (1 E. 104th Street) on Wednesday. On Saturday, January 30, the squad will participate in a tournament at the Lab Museum United High School (333 W. 17th Street). In a double header, the girls will play the School of the Future at noon and Wagner at 1 p.m.
The boys varsity basketball team, which won their division championship last year, is currently leading their division with five wins—including this week’s victory over Winston Prep—and no losses. This season they will play schools including Stephen Gaynor, Child School, Mandell, Rodeph Sholom and UNIS Queens. On Monday the team has a home game against Mandell at 4:30 p.m. at the 92nd Street Y.
The boys and girls junior varsity teams are displaying formidable skills on the court as well. The boys are currently 3-0 and the girls have a 1-0 record.
We encourage you to come out and support MCS’ basketball teams. Games dates and times are listed on the MCS calendar.
