2016 Winter Assembly

At Manhattan Country School's Winter Assembly we celebrate Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Christmas and Three Kings Day. We invite families to join us at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 15, in the gym. Two members from each student’s family are welcome.

This year’s Winter Assembly will include holiday songs from African-American, Jewish and Christian traditions. Students will be singing in Swahili, Spanish, Hebrew and Latin as well as English. Ivan Barenboim on clarinet, parent Michael Ulmer on djembe and Librarian Jay Fung will accompany our selections.

Central to the program is the Candle Lighting ceremony, which carries on an MCS tradition begun in the school's earliest years. We’re reminded that the holidays being celebrated are festivals of light—including the winter solstice—and harvest.

We look forward to seeing you there.
