Specialized (SHSAT) High Schools

If your family determines that a Specialized High School may be a best-fit school for you, you may register to take the SHSAT exam in the Fall of 2022, which will take place on A Date To Be Determined. There are 9 specialized high schools throughout New York City; 8 of them require taking the SHSAT exam for a student to be considered for admission. *Students apply to Fiorello LaGuardia High School for the Arts via an Audition process. Taking the SHSAT will not qualify a student for admission to LaGuardia. A student must complete an audition for a specific program at LaGuardia.

Register for the SHSAT

Families must register their student to take the SHSAT using their MySchools.nyc account. A student must take the exam on the designated date and time at their respective location.

When to expect results

Every student who took the SHSAT exam for Fall 2022 admissions will receive their results in Spring 2022.

Score cutoffs are different every year. They are based on the availability of seats at each Specialized High School and the overall performance of the applicant pool on the SHSAT. It is difficult to predict to which Specialized (SHSAT) High School a student may be admitted.
