Throughout our Lower School, we refer to our classrooms by age ranges rather than grades. 6-7s is therefore equivalent to 1st grade; 7-8s to 2nd grade; 8-9s to 3rd grade; 9-10s to 4th grade.
The following are the necessary steps to apply.

  • Fill out an Inquiry Form

    The Inquiry Form will alert us to your inquiry and from there you will receive information to set   up your parent portal and will be able to self-schedule your Virtual Visit and access your child’s admissions checklists with the steps below.
  • Attend a Virtual Visit for parents - available September through December (no application required) or Open House (held on October 21)

    The Virtual Visit is a live Zoom presentation with the admissions team to tell you about MCS, its programs and the admissions process. There will be time for Q&A after the session. We encourage families to book their visits early as dates in November and December fill up. Parents can attend a Virtual Visit or Open House before submitting the application, and one or the other is strongly recommended for the admissions process. We will hold one Open House on October 21, via Zoom. This session will include teachers and administrators.
  • Application - due December 1, 2021

    The application is what kick-starts the admissions process and creates an admissions checklist for your child. Submit the application and application fee by December 1. (Families whose combined incomes are $75,000 or less are eligible for fee waivers. Please contact the Assistant Director of Admissions and Enrollment to obtain this waiver code)
  • Submit the Family Financial Worksheet (FFW) - due by December 1, 2021

    MCS does not have a financial aid program, rather, we operate on a sliding scale tuition model. The FFW is what allows MCS to calculate each family’s tuition fee, based on their financial profile. Each family’s tuition fee is detailed on their enrollment contract if and when an admissions acceptance is issued.Families who opt for the maximum tuition fee should indicate that on the FFW as well.
  • Child Assessment (virtual) - November 1 through January 14

    The child assessment is a way for us to engage with your child, get to know them, and assess their skills.  The session will involve some math and reading comprehension exercises via screen share. We will schedule assessments as we receive applications, and will stop scheduling once we have run out of appointments. We encourage families to submit their applications early in the process.
  • Optional Parent Conversation - October through January (via Zoom)

    Once you have submitted your application you can schedule a parent conversation through your admissions portal. This is an opportunity to engage with members of the Manhattan Country School administration and tell us about your family as well as ask questions that are particular to your child.
  • Teacher Confidential Report - due by January 7, 2022

    Please request that your child’s current teacher fill out the Teacher Confidential Report. You can send the request to your child’s teacher via the checklist in your admissions portal. We recommend that you submit the request after November 15 so that your child’s teacher has had an opportunity to get to know them.
  • In-person tours - projected for mid-winter

    Our goal is to offer in-person tours in small groups for families who have applied by December 1.
