Admissions Process

Admissions Process

Our December 1 application deadline for the 2020-2021 school year has passed. We are no longer accepting applications to the 4-5s or 5-6s; however, we are continuing to accept applications to the 6-7s through eighth grade on a rolling basis. For more information about the admissions process for older applicants, please contact the Admissions Office

The admissions team at Manhattan Country School will work with each family to guide them through the admissions process. To help you familiarize yourself with the process, all the admissions steps and details are outlined below.

Age Requirements

  • Children must be four by September 1, 2020 to be considered for the 4-5s classroom for the 2020-2021 school year.
  • Children must be five by September 1, 2020 to be considered for the 5-6s classroom for the 2020-2021 school year.
Step 1: Schedule a Visit

4-5s and 5-6s (Pre-K and K)

As applications for the 2020-2021 school year are now closed, please submit an Inquiry Form to be contacted once we have set Spring Tour dates ahead of the 2021-2022 school year.

6-7s (First Grade) Through Seventh Grade

Admissions to the 6-7s through seventh grade is rolling, based on enrollment and attrition. The families of older applicants will be invited to tour if and when we see spaces becoming available.

Step 2: Submit an Application

4-5s and 5-6s (Pre-K and K)

Applications for the 4-5s or 5-6s are now closed. To receive updates about the 2021-2022 school year, please submit an Inquiry Form.

6-7s (First Grade) Through Seventh Grade

Availability in the older grades is based on space and will be determined mid-January. We encourage interested families to apply. Should the application fee present a hardship, or for more information about the process, please contact the Admissions Office.

Step 3: Attend a Playgroup Session or Interview

4-5s and 5-6s (Pre-K and K)

Each child whose application was received by December 1 will be invited to attend a playgroup. Playgroups will be scheduled throughout December and January. Adults will meet together informally with a member of the administration while their children are engaged in the playgroup. Only one adult is required to attend.

6-7s (First Grade) Through Seventh Grade

Children applying to the 6-7s through seventh grade will be invited to attend a child visit based on enrollment and attrition. The Admissions Office will reach out to applicant families if and when we see spaces becoming available.

Step 4: Request a Confidential Report

4-5s Through 6-7s

If your child is in a school setting (nursery, preschool, daycare, co-op, etc.), please submit the appropriate Confidential Report to your child’s current teacher(s) or preschool director. Teachers/directors should return these forms directly to MCS by January 8, 2020.  Families applying to 6-7s (grade 1) must also submit Kindergarten school reports.

We encourage you to contact the Admissions Office with any questions regarding tuition or the FFW.

MCS does not require standardized testing assessments for applicants to the Lower School (4-5s through 9-10s).

There are testing requirements for children applying to the Upper School (fifth through eighth grade).
