Throughout the winter, the Manhattan Country School Math Team meets each Thursday to engage in mathematical activities. Participation is open to all interested sixth through eighth graders. We constructed polyhedra out of pipe cleaners and straws, experimented with the single-cut origami theorem, folded origami structures, played many games of set and ricochet robots and shared our thinking around problem sets from MATHCOUNTS and the Museum of Mathematics’ Momathlon.
Last weekend, nine MCS sixth, seventh and eighth graders attended the MATHCOUNTS Manhattan competition. The team, which included Aaron, Jory, Sophia, Julia, Kenji, Cal, Ama, Jack and Alec, brought home a trophy for “Most Improved Team.” It’s been a fun season, and we’re looking forward to the next!
