A delegation of educators from Akademiska Skolan (Academic School) in Sweden visited Manhattan Country School on Thursday as part of a trip to New York City to study schools serving diverse student populations. During the three-day visit, Abdulkader Habib, formerly of Sweden’s Ministry of Education and co-creator of Akademiska Skolan, and his team met with administrators at MCS and several other New York City Schools. They also met with researchers and city officials on topics ranging from Islamophobia to school discipline.
The educators were impressed by MCS’ commitment to building classes of students with diverse histories, families and experiences. They are excited to take lessons learned back to Sweden to improve their own progressive education model for their increasingly diverse racial and ethnic student population.
