Fifth graders witness birth of calf at MCS Farm

During the fifth grade trip to MCS Farm, students and I witnessed the birth of a calf. The students were very excited! Many of us think the calf looks like “Bambi.” He’s very cute! There’s no name yet, but the list of options is growing. ![]()
Our fun continues here at the MCS Farm. The farm classes are busy harvesting a ton of broccoli, potatoes and onions. The cooking class is busy cooking with the harvested food and preparing meals for our lunch and dinner. The textile classes are dying wool. And finally, the class they all wait for — nature. Program Director John McDaniel takes them on a hike in the woods and then leaves them to find their way back. So far, they all have a great sense of direction! Our night time fun has been filled with obstacle courses, scavenger hunts, capture the flag, “Panic” (a famous 9/10s, 5th grade game) and of course, yummy snacks.
