Trustees,

This morning I had the distinct pleasure of seeing families gathered along with staff in the lobby of 150 W 85th and children sitting in classes and roaming the hallways. While not complete, the building has come a long way and those parts that are “finished” look amazing. I am biased but I saw nothing but smiles and the energy was palpable. One parent asked me if we had put the staircase in; another informed that her child knew exactly what to do as if it were the old building. This is the first step in a long journey but it was very gratifying and exciting to see years of searching, negotiating and renovating begin to take shape. For those of you who have not had the pleasure, I encourage you to visit in the morning.

Our first board meeting of the year will be this Tuesday September 20th at the offices of Davis Wright Tremaine, 1633 Broadway, 27th Floor.

I apologize for the late notice. I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Below is a tentative agenda for the meeting.

During the financial section we will be reviewing a lot of information. Given the amount of business that we have to get through we may not have time to dig into the material as much as everyone would like. We will provide other opportunities for Trustees to digest the information. For example, we will be going through the material in more depth at the new Trustee orientation on September 21st . I would be happy to arrange another session. It is vital that all trustees understand our finances and our current challenges.
FARM UPDATE We finally received a contract from Alan Denis, the seller of the Johanssen Farm. The contract did not contain several key terms which we had previously negotiated with the seller, including a 120 financing contingency window. We have gone back to the seller with our changes. We will keep everyone apprised of the negotiations. When we arrive at a final contract we will distribute for discussion and approval. The Board of Trustees set MCS on a tremendous journey when it voted to relocate and double the size of the school. By opening the doors of 150 W 85th street this week we achieved a major milestone in achieving that vision.

We still have a long way to go and I look forward to working with all of you to make it a reality.
