Application Process

Manhattan Country School student readingWe do everything we can at Manhattan Country School to make the application process as transparent as possible. If you’re considering MCS for your child, please review the application procedures below.

Step 1: Schedule a School Visit

Prospective parents are required to attend either a morning tour of the school or our evening Open House in order to be considered. You may submit your application before or after your tour or open house visit. Please note, school tours begin in early September and end in early December.

Step 2: Submit an Application Form

There is a non-refundable application fee of $70, and applications must be received by December 1. You may apply online or call to request an application packet via mail. Alternatively, the application is available for download from September 4 to December 1. Please call the admissions office for more information. 

Step 3:  Interview for Your Child

We will schedule an interview for your child after you application is received.        

4, 5, 6 year-olds

Student interviews take place in small groups. Parents will meet together informally with a member of the administration while their children are being interviewed by members of the admissions committee. 

7-8s (2nd grade) through 7th grade

Students are accepted on a rolling basis when spaces are available. If you are applying to the 5th-8th grades, please call the school to determine whether we are still accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year. Students are interviewed individually by the Lower or Upper School Directors.

Step 4: Complete the Family Financial Worksheet (FFW

Step 5: Educational Records Bureau Test (ERB)

Students applying to 2nd – 4th grades take the Early Childhood Admissions Assessment (ECAA). The Independent Schools Entrance Exam (ISEE) is for students applying to the 5th – 7th grades. 

 

Your competed application package should include:

  • A tour of the school
  • Application form due December 1
  • A report and a confidential form from your child’s current school (if the child has previous school experience) due January 15, 2012
  • ERB for students in 2nd grade and above (If a child younger than 2nd grade is taking the ERB, we ask that you send the scores to us as well) If you require a fee waiver, please visit the ISAAGNY website.
  • A Family Financial Worksheet (FFW) required of all families due January 15, 2012
