Teacher Training

Manhattan Country School embraces teacher training as an important part of our public mission. We host student teachers from Bank Street, Teachers College, Sarah Lawrence, City College, and other teacher training institutions. Student teachers at MCS work closely with mentor teachers to design and teach our innovative curriculum rooted in principles of progressive education, multiculturalism, and social justice. Student and assistant teachers from MCS bring a unique experience to the public, charter, and independent schools where they later teach. 

MCS also frequently hosts visitors groups from other schools or schools of education, both in the city and at the farm.  These visits encourage educators to share their reflections about what they saw, exchanging ideas and lessons.  MCS has hosted conferences and led professional development workshops on our core values of progressive education, diversity, and sustainability.  Teachers and administrators regularly present at conferences to share the MCS model with a wider audience.
